7/26/2016 2 Comments Guest author- New book by CD HershThe fourth book in the Turning Stone Chronicles Series, The Mercenary and the Shifters, releases tomorrow July 27th. This book brings to life Fiona Kayler’s, Rhys’ sister, story a year after the last book, and also continues with Alexi’s and Rhys’ story to become the long awaited bringers of peace to the Turning Stone Society. (The link is already up for pre-order: https://amzn.com/B01I01W2JC. When mercenary soldier Michael Corritore answers a desperate call from an ex-military buddy, he finds himself in the middle of a double kidnapping, caught in an ancient war between two shape shifter factions, and ensnared between two female shape shifters after the same thing ... him. Shape shifter Fiona Kayler will do anything to keep the shipping company her father left her, including getting in bed with the enemy. But when she believes the man trying to steal her company is involved with kidnapping her nephew, she must choose between family, fortune, and love. The problem is ... she wants all three. * * * Excerpt: Mike’s presence in her bedroom as she gathered overnight items for the guesthouse comforted Fiona. It also set jitters off in her stomach. The man was hot and muscular and very alpha. He’d removed a sword and gun from his duffel bag and slung them, along with a bandolier of ammunition, over his shoulder after they’d been attacked. The sight of his weapons and his protective behavior did unfamiliar, disconcerting things to her. “Does the guesthouse have a phone?” he asked over her shoulder. Fiona jumped and slammed her palm to her chest. “Jeez, don’t sneak up on me. I didn’t hear you cross the room.” “Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.” “After what happened tonight, it won’t take much to make me jump. And, no, it doesn’t. But I’ve got my cell.” “I’ll need the number.” “Ditto, on yours.” “I think you need to take your gun. The one you pulled on me.” “After tonight, I’ll sleep with that baby under my pillow.” Mike studied her. “You’re certain you don’t have an idea who might want you dead? What about the group you’re dealing with? What was the name again?” “OmniWorld? I think I’m more important to them alive, at the moment.” A knowing smile flashed across Mike’s face, and she realized he’d tricked her into revealing the name of the cartel she’d withheld earlier. “At the moment?” She thought about the cargo Mr. Swindell’s associate had forced her to ship. Had he’d lied about the cigarettes? If he had, she needed backup. Hugh trusted Mike. She needed to do the same. “I’m handling some freight for them. I don’t think they want to off me, at least until the deal’s finished.” Mike swore under his breath. “What are you mixed up in, Fiona?” When she didn’t answer he continued, “If I’m going to help, you have to be completely honest with me.” She cringed at the word completely. Honesty with anyone, at this point, could only be partial. How much could—should—she tell him? * * * About the authors: Putting words and stories on paper is second nature to co-authors C.D. Hersh. 10/28/2015 0 Comments Thursday Threads with CD HershWhat better way to start your Halloween weekend than with an urban fantasy, paranormal romance with shape-shifters? Take a peek at Son of The Moonless Night by CD Hersh on this week's Thursday Threads. TITLE: The Turning Stone Chronicles: “Son of the Moonless Night” AUTHOR: C.D. HERSH GENRE: Urban fantasy, Paranormal, Romance HEAT LEVEL: Sensual Currently available in eBook on Amazon at: http://amzn.com/B00XK3E172 Owen Todd Jordan Riley has a secret. He’s a shape shifter who has been hunting and killing his own kind. To him the only good shifter is a dead shifter. Revenge for the death of a friend motivates him, and nothing stands in his way . . . except Katrina Romanovski, the woman he is falling in love with. Deputy coroner Katrina Romanovski has a secret, too. She hunts and kills paranormal beings like Owen. At least she did. When she rescues Owen from an attack by a werebear she is thrust back into the world she thought she’d left. Determined to find out what Owen knows about the bear, she begins a relationship meant to collect information. What she gets is something quite different-love with a man she suspects of murder. Can she reconcile his deception and murderous revenge spree and find a way to redeem him? Or will she condemn him for the same things she has done and walk away from love? Excerpt from Son of the Moonless Night: A crash in the alley stopped Katrina Romanovski mid-stride. Like the October mist swirling in off the lake, her gypsy blood stirred sending her intuition into high gear. Something unnatural was happening. Go see what’s wrong. She heard her father’s voice as clearly as if he stood next to her. On the heels of his words came her mother’s pragmatic warning in clipped British tones. You know what curiosity killed. Katrina pushed the ever-present warning aside. Mom never approved of Dad’s supernatural hunts and even less of his drawing her into them. Pulling the oversized cross she always wore out from under her shirt, Kat looked around for a weapon. Please, not a vampire. I hate vampires! A piece of wood sticking out of the trashcan at the front of the alley caught her eye. Grabbing it, she broke the end off into a sharp point. The mist-filled air filtered the light from the single bulb over one of the alley doorways. The wind swirled the loose trash around making a quiet approach difficult. Sidestepping the paper, with the stake in one hand and holding the gun she took from her purse in the other hand, she crept into the alley. A roar echoed against the buildings, the sound nearly sending her running. That roar wasn’t a vampire. It sounded more like an animal. Kat inched closer. In the yellow pool of light from the back door of the building, a black bear, over seven feet tall, reared on its back legs and swung its paw at the man standing at the edge of the light. He crashed to the ground, shirt torn open from the slashing claws. Blood covered the fabric, and he clasped his left hand over his shoulder to stem the flow. The bear bent toward him, teeth bared in a smile. A wicked smile. Kat aimed her gun, but before she could pull the trigger, a shot rang out. The flash of gunpowder lit the face of the injured man. The blast reverberated against the buildings. With an enraged bellow, the bear staggered backward against the wall. Shaking his head, the animal dropped to all four paws. Weaving like a drunk, he lumbered toward his attacker. The man took aim again, shooting the animal between the eyes. Animal and human collapsed on the dirty, littered pavement. As she started to move forward, Kat’s gypsy senses crawled over her skin like angry red ants. As she slipped back into the shadows, the bear shed fur. Changing size. Then, finally, turning into a man. Shape shifters. Her stake wasn’t any good against them, and her bullets weren’t silver. This one appeared dead anyway. Had the wounded man seen the shift? Tossing the stake aside, she paused by the shifter and quickly moved to the wounded man. Out cold. Still human. When she touched him, his eyelids fluttered open. “Did I get it?” “What?” “The bear.” * * * Where you can find CD: Soul Mate Publishing: http://smpauthors.wordpress.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cdhershauthor Amazon Author Page: http://www.amazon.com/C.-D.-Hersh/e/B00DV5L7ZI Twitter: https://twitter.com/AuthorCDHersh Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/CDHersh 5/26/2015 2 Comments Guest Author, CD HershToday I have CD Hersh on my blog with a unique look at some research they did for Son of the Moonless Night, due to be released tomorrow, May 27. Some of what they uncovered was eye-opening to me! Read on! Deadly Doses Cathy, Thanks so much for allowing us to share our research and book with your followers. One of the fun things about writing a book is the kind of research you get to do. For our book, Son of the Moonless Night, we delved into the world of poison, because our hero, Owen Jordan Riley, is a forensic scientist with a toxicology specialty. Ever since Owen read the story of Snow White and the poison apple, poisons have fascinated him. In one scene of the book, he nearly destroys the heroine’s appetite when he launches into a dissertation on poisonous foods and plants. Here are a few poisonous foods we didn’t know about. P.S. we left out the ones Owen used to spoil the heroine’s appetite. You’ll need to read the book to find those out. Amanita Mushrooms - These extremely toxic mushrooms have symptoms that develop six to forty-eight hours after ingesting them. By that time it’s too late to seek medical attention. Symptoms include sudden onset of extreme stomach pains, vomiting, thirst, and bloody diarrhea. Finally, you will lapse into a coma and die. Ackee - Jamaica’s national fruit will give you Jamaica Vomiting Sickness. If you eat it before fully ripe it can cause coma or death. Don’t eat the seeds they are always toxic. Elderberry - If the little old ladies in the play, Arsenic and Old Lace, had added roots and other parts of the tree to their elderberry wine, they might not have needed to put in the arsenic. While the berries can be eaten, the roots and other parts of the tree are highly poisonous. Almonds - are full of cyanide. Before consumption almonds should be processed to remove the poison. Don’t worry. It’s illegal in the U.S. to sell raw almonds. So your bag of raw almonds have been heat treated to remove the cyanide. Cherries - are in the same family as almonds. But only the cherry seed, which produces hydrogen cyanide when chewed, is poisonous. So don’t bite the cherry pip. You’ll not only break a tooth, you’ll poison yourself. Potatoes - The stems and leaves are poisonous and so is the potato itself, if it is eaten green. Death normally comes after a period of weakness and confusion, followed by a coma. Lima Beans - contain a high level of cyanide if you eat them raw. Be sure to cook them thoroughly, uncovered to allow the poison to escape as a gas. Don’t drink the water they are cooked in either. So what is your favorite food that is hazardous to your health? Title – Son of the Moonless Night, The Turning Stone Chronicles, book three Author – C.D. Hersh Genre – Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Suspense Romance Heat Level - Sensual Release Date: May 27th, 2015 HOOK Thrust back into the world of paranormal huntress, Deputy Coroner Katrina Romanovski must unravel a string of murders she believes are vampire attacks. When she discovers the shape shifter she’s in love with is the murderer, she must reconcile her feelings for him, examine her life of violence against paranormals, and justify deceiving him in order to bring him to justice. BLURB Owen Todd Jordan Riley has a secret. He’s a shape shifter who has been hunting and killing his own kind. To him the only good shifter is a dead shifter. Revenge for the death of a friend motivates him, and nothing stands in his way . . . except Katrina Romanovski, the woman he is falling in love with. Can she reconcile his deception and murderous revenge spree and find a way to redeem him? Or will she condemn him for the same things she has done and walk away from love? Excerpt: A head of lettuce and a grapefruit escaped from the paper grocery sack as Katrina leaned sideways on tippy toes to get the topmost lock. The vegetables rolled across the small concrete patio at the bottom of the stairway well and stopped against a leg of the wrought iron café table. Whispering an expletive, she pushed the door open and placed her purse and grocery sack on the entryway table just inside the door. Then she swiveled to get the runaway vegetables. A very pleasant and interesting sight greeted her. A pair of dark trousers caressed a toned posterior of the man bending over to retrieve her vegetables. She fought to rein in the path her mind started down. Been too long, Katrina, she said to herself as the vision straightened and turned around. “Oh!” he exclaimed. “I thought you had gone inside.” The way he held the vegetables out in front of him made her wonder what his hands would feel like if he held her breasts in that manner. “Hello? Are you awake?” “Ah, ah,” Katrina sputtered as she focused on his face to get her mind out of the gutter. “Okay. Awake, but not here yet.” The corner of his lips started to rise. “You,” she breathed when she recognized him. “Where’s my grandmother’s afghan and my Cleveland Brown’s hoodie?” “Nice to see you, too, and thank you, I’m feeling fine.” She crossed her arms tightly over her chest. “If you hadn’t run off I’d have known you were okay.” The smile inched up the side of his cheek, lighting his electric blue eyes. “You worried about me. How sweet.” “Sweet, my patootie. I just . . . You could have bled . . . Oh, crap. Where’s my stuff?” He took another step closer to her. The deep blue ring around his amazing eyes seemed to darken. She leaned back from him. Without taking his eyes off her, he nodded to a brightly colored gift bag on the ground beside the door. “I got blood on the afghan so I had it cleaned. It wasn’t badly stained. The blood came out. The hoodie’s a different story. I couldn’t salvage it, so I bought a replacement.” Balancing the vegetables in one hand he lifted the gift bag to her. “Forgiven? Please?” * * * Amazon buy links: The Promised One (The Turning Stone Chronicles Book 1): eBook: http://amzn.com/B00DUMODKI paperback: http://amzn.com/1619353504 Blood Brothers (The Turning Stone Chronicles Book 2): eBook: http://amzn.com/B00OVNFC8W paperback: http://amzn.com/1619358271 Son of the Moonless Night (The Turning Stone Chronicles Book 3): eBook: http://amzn.com/B00XK3E172 Bio: Putting words and stories on paper is second nature to co-authors C.D. "Shape shifter Delaney Ramsey’s daughter is missing, and she is bound by honor to protect the man she suspects of the deed. To bring him to justice, she must go against her code, the leader of the secret shifter society, and the police captain she is falling for." CMR: Thank you for joining me today, CD. How does Samhain and its magic relate to your new book? CD: Cathy, thank you so much for allowing us to post on your blog today. Samhain, also known as Halloween, is an important night to our shifters because of the magic that is believed to be all around that night. Ancient Celts believed that the veil between the magic world and the real world was very thin on Samhain, and supernatural beings and the dead could cross over into our world. For our shifters Samhain is the night when their rings are bound to them. Also, if the incantation inscribed in the ring, which releases the magic that enables the wearer of the ring to shift, is read before midnight on Samhain, the magic is stronger than if read on any other day of the year. Once Samhain is past the magic can only be taken from the individual through death. Samhain is also the night when the potential Promised Ones, of each shifter faction, are presented to their respective councils. At presentation their skills are tested. The keeper of the stone, Eli McCraigen, has been searching for the one, true Promised One for centuries. Until recently, none have proved worthy to unite the two factions of warring shifters and lead them to peace. Of course, the rogue shifter faction has been searching for their own Promised One, but for very different reasons than Eli. When Blood Brothers opens Eli has just discovered not one potential Promised One, but two: Rhys Temple and Alexi Jordan. To his delight, they are in love. Never in the history of Samhain has such a discovery been made, and Eli begins to wonder if the prophesy about the Promised One has been misinterpreted all these years. He calls in shape-shifter Delaney Ramsey to help him mentor his new protégés. Unbeknownst to him, the rogue kingpin, Falhman, and his henchwoman Sylvia Jordan Riley have discovered Rhys, too. And so the battle begins. Check out this excerpt from Blood Brothers: Prologue Sylvia Jordan Riley winced as Falhman dug into her shoulder and extracted a bullet. He dropped the bullet into the trash and swabbed the wound. “You want to tell me how you got injured?” he asked as he reached for the needle to stitch the gaping hole. “Chasing Promised Ones.” And the man who murdered my ex-husband. “I hope it was worth this.” “It was.” She’d torn Baron's killer to shreds, but that wasn’t the best part of her news. “I’ve found someone who shifted with me by using the power from my ring.” Falhman stopped stitching and stared intently at Sylvia, his eyes glittering with undisguised interest. “Is he a rogue shifter?” “I don’t think he’s any kind of shifter. He seemed startled when the shift occurred.” “A non-shifter who can use the ring without the incantation? What’s his name?” “Temple. Rhys Temple. There’s only one problem.” Sylvia paused then continued, “He’s in love with Baron Jordan’s niece, Alexi.” “I thought that whole family was dead.” “She’s the last one left, and I think she's on track as a Promised One.” Falhman went back to stitching Sylvia’s skin with practiced ease. “Get rid of her and get him. If we can control someone with that kind of power, we can control the world.” Sylvia looked at her superior. He made it sound simple. Kill Alexi Jordan and lure Rhys to the dark side. Piece of cake? Not if a Jordan was involved. From her recent dealings with Alexi, she knew there would be one heck of a fight if she tried to take her man. Find out in The Series The Turning Stone Chronicles EXCERPTS: Excerpt from book one of the chronicles titled “The Promised One” currently available in eBook and paperback on Amazon at: http://t.co/yW59QqvkLh * * * Eli, I know it’s been years since you’ve heard from me, not since my brother’s murder, but Alexi’s time has come. I tried to shield her from the destiny, teaching her only the basics of the ring and waiting until she was an adult to start any training. I didn’t want to push her, but now she is developing skills I’ve not taught her. I need someone from the Council to come and assess her, and I can’t think of anyone I trust more than the man I fought beside in so many battles. After making such a mess of Sylvia, I don’t trust my judgment. I need an advocate on the Council and your advice. If you agree with my assessment, I want to present Alexi to the Council this coming Samhain. Please come as soon as possible… The letter’s date and postmark indicated Baron had written the letter about two weeks prior to his death. Prickles crept over her arms. My time? Present me to the Council? Sylvia’s comment about the Promised One came back to her. Had Baron sent for Eli because of the great destiny he always insisted she had? Alexi closed the door and rested her forehead against the solid surface. Life was already too complicated. She didn’t need this. * * * Excerpt from book two of The Turning Stone Chronicles titled “Blood Brothers” coming this fall from Soul Mate Publishing. The telephone jangling pulled Delaney Ramsey out of a deep sleep. Moving the digital clock on the nightstand closer to her, she squinted at the bright green numbers. Three a.m. She fumbled for the receiver. “If you’re calling at this ungodly hour, someone better be dead,” she mumbled into the phone. “Delaney, ’tis Eli McCraigen.” Sitting up, she pulled the duvet cover with her. Why was the Keeper of the Stone calling her? “What’s wrong, Eli?” “Dinna worry yerself. ’Tis good news.” Slumping against the headboard, she yawned, the adrenalin draining away with his words. “If it’s such good news, why couldn’t you wait until tomorrow?” “I need ye tae call a special meeting o’ the council before they get away from the city.” “All fifteen?” “Nay, only the senior council. I’ve a new Promised One tae present.” “Why wasn’t he presented last night at Samhain?” “He hadnae committed tae the cause, and he dinna have a ring until minutes before midnight.” “This is highly irregular, Eli. I don’t know if I can get the council to agree.” “Ye have tae. He’s a verra special man.” “A Promised One who hasn’t even had his ring more than a few hours. That’s unheard of. How can you expect someone like that to pass even one proof test?” “He’s already shown me two--and they’re not the paltry tests most Promised Ones have failed. He has the elusive, legendary powers, and he did them using the power of other shifters’ rings.” She snapped awake. “Other shifters’ rings? Whose?” “Mine, Alexi Jordan’s and Sylvia Jordan’s.” Delaney switched the light on, knocking her reading glasses to the floor with the motion. Great. She’d just bought them. Leaning over the edge of the bed, she retrieved the glasses and put them on. “Sylvia Jordan Riley?” “’Tis that what the she-witch is calling herself now?” “Seems so. Her name has come across my desk in her official capacity with Homeland Security.” “That’s the other thing I need from ye. Sylvia’s butting intae Rhys’ and Alexi’s jobs and personal lives. I’m pretty certain she knows what he is, too. I need reinforcements.” In all the years she’d known Eli, he’d never asked for assistance. And he comes to me now. At the worst possible time. “I’m honored you’d think of me, but I can’t do more than call the council for you. Ask one of them to get your reinforcements.” “Fine, the council can arrange that, but I need ye on a more personal mission.” “I’m in the middle of something very important and time consuming. I can’t help.” “Dinna ye know who’s asking ye, lassie?” She knew all right. The most powerful man in the entire Turning Stone Society. She was crazy to even consider refusing him. Her position on the council rested on his say so. However, finding her daughter meant more to her than anything else. “Normally I’d be willing to die for you, Eli, but--” “Let’s pray dying won’t be what we’ll be needing. But I could be putting ye in a verra dangerous position.” That did it. No way could she help if it might cost her life. Not now. Not until she found Lila. “I’m sorry. I can’t.” “I need ye, Delaney. Come tae University Hospital and see me. I’m in ER.” “ER? Are you all right?” “We had a little run-in with a panther.” * * * LINKS for C.D.
