The Highlander's Viking Bride is live today!
The inspiration for this story began when Highland Escape was so well-received. It seems readers are as eager to read about strong heroines as we are to write about them. And thus, the Hardy Heroine series was born. There will be more!
Calder MacGerry, laird of an impoverished clan, has resolved to end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclairs. He jumps at Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans—only to get more than he bargained for.
Katja’s chance to escape her father’s harsh treatment appears to be too good to be true. But becoming Lady of a clan that despises her because she’s a Sinclair, doesn’t make her life any easier. When the attacks turn deadly, she fights her way out, making a dangerous passage to the Shetland Isles for refuge with her Viking family.
Calder and Katja’s marriage, built on mistrust, rushes quickly into disaster. As Calder seeks to repair the damage, Katja discovers not another enemy, but a husband who pledges a new beginning.

My next contribution to the Ghosts of Culloden Moor series is out!
I began writing in this series just over a year ago, drawn by the memory of a misty visit to Culloden Moor on an earlier trip to Scotland.
Then, as now, the tragedies and hopes called to me, and I jumped at the chance LL Muir offered when she told me of her dream of a series that would put the ghosts to rest.
I hope you enjoy Patrick's story. Please read LL Muir's book, The Gathering, first as it gives the background to the subsequent stories.

Christmas tidings of comfort, joy, and temptation in Seduction at the Christmas Court!
Alyse and Geoffrey, Lord and Lady Longford, have journeyed to the glittering Christmas Court of King Edward III in the year 1349 to wait upon the king and take part in some Yuletide merriment. However, when Geoffrey is suddenly called into the king’s service again, Alyse must remain at court, attending the queen and persuading her rebellious sister to accept an unwanted betrothal. When rumors of Geoffrey’s death arise, Alyse fends off an old suitor who wants to renew their friendship. But how long will he take “No” for an answer?
Alyse stared in horror as Guy nonchalantly raised her hand to his lips. The skin seemed to shrink, as though it would crawl off her bones to escape his touch. She longed to snatch it away from the vile man however, mindful of the thousand eyes that marked her every movement, she instead gave him a coy look and a nod. “You are kind to remember me, Guy, now that you have my sister to wife. I doubted you would give me a glance in the wake of her beauty.”
Geoffrey moved closer to her, his hulking presence a subtle warning.
An she knew her husband, he was now sorely tempted to run Guy through with his sword. Thank God it lay safe in their chamber. “I give you good evening, Sir Guy. It has been long since last we met at my father’s house.” Remind him who had triumphed that evening and mayhap he’d keep his distance and his head.
“Too long, cherie. Perhaps now we are to be kindred, we will see much more of one another.” His gaze rested on her mouth and he licked his lips.
Bold villain. Alyse drew closer to Geoffrey. The man’s dark-eyed gaze would peel the clothes from her like the skin from an orange an she endured it much longer.
Face blackened in a scowl, Geoffrey bumped her side as he stepped between her and Guy. “My wife will enjoy her sister’s company as often as she likes while we are at court, Sir Guy. An you are in the room you may bear them company as well during the Christmastide. Should you journey to Longford after you are wed, of course, we will always open our home to you.” Her husband’s teeth clenched so tight his jaw creaked. He’d rejoice in Guy’s company when the last trump sounded.
“Pippa,” Alyse said, turning to her sister, sorry that she must bear witness to Guy’s disrespect. Pray God His Majesty never heard tell of this conversation. She grasped her sister’s hands, pulling the girl from Guy’s side. “’Twill only be a short time ‘ere we are gone from here. This feuding twixt Guy and Geoffrey will last only so long as we remain here. Once you are married—”
“Once I am married to him there will be no escape, Alyse.” Pippa’s voice, hard-edged, flat, and filled with anger, made her cringe. “I will be forever chained to a man who cares nothing for me, only for my sister.”

Mike’s presence in her bedroom as she gathered overnight items for the guesthouse comforted Fiona. It also set jitters off in her stomach. The man was hot and muscular and very alpha. He’d removed a sword and gun from his duffel bag and slung them, along with a bandolier of ammunition, over his shoulder after they’d been attacked. The sight of his weapons and his protective behavior did unfamiliar, disconcerting things to her.
“Does the guesthouse have a phone?” he asked over her shoulder.
Fiona jumped and slammed her palm to her chest. “Jeez, don’t sneak up on me. I didn’t hear you cross the room.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
“After what happened tonight, it won’t take much to make me jump. And, no, it doesn’t. But I’ve got my cell.”
“I’ll need the number.”
“Ditto, on yours.”
“I think you need to take your gun. The one you pulled on me.”
“After tonight, I’ll sleep with that baby under my pillow.”
Mike studied her. “You’re certain you don’t have an idea who might want you dead? What about the group you’re dealing with? What was the name again?”
“OmniWorld? I think I’m more important to them alive, at the moment.”
A knowing smile flashed across Mike’s face, and she realized he’d tricked her into revealing the name of the cartel she’d withheld earlier.
“At the moment?”
She thought about the cargo Mr. Swindell’s associate had forced her to ship. Had he’d lied about the cigarettes? If he had, she needed backup. Hugh trusted Mike. She needed to do the same.
“I’m handling some freight for them. I don’t think they want to off me, at least until the deal’s finished.”
Mike swore under his breath. “What are you mixed up in, Fiona?” When she didn’t answer he continued, “If I’m going to help, you have to be completely honest with me.”
She cringed at the word completely. Honesty with anyone, at this point, could only be partial. How much could—should—she tell him?

His dreams of heroic valor are destroyed by the realities of war—the atrocities visited by fellow soldiers on the very people he is sworn to protect. She finds refuge in her uncle’s shop—until a chance encounter sends her fleeing into the unknown once again, haunted by the beguiling friendship with the troubled young Scotsman she is certain she will never see again.
Determined to find the woman of his dreams, Kinnon returns to France, only to discover a trail of clues to Melisende’s whereabouts. Their reunion will open the doors to passion, but half-truths and lies from the past could destroy the one thing they both are willing to fight for—each other.

Welcome back to Bits n Bobs, Caroline. Is this the actual release day for Dangerous Works?
It is! Soul Mate Publishing has made it available on Amazon. I’m delighted to finally have it out there for readers. Here is the buy link:
Congratulations! Now, tell us a bit about the story. What works are so dangerous?
Women in the regency era led pretty constrained lives. Some people (ok some MEN) believed too much education would actually harm their delicate sensibilities. My heroine, Georgiana, despises that attitude. When she gets deep into the poems with the help of a very attractive tutor, however, she begins to understand why some people might think her work is dangerous. A little Greek is one thing; the art of love is another. Before she knows it her heart is in danger alongside her virtue.
What is your favorite scene?
There is a scene in which she is furious with the hero for taking steps to publish their work without consulting her. She stomps up the stairs to his study thinking up every insult she can hurl at him only to fall into his arms at the top of the steps.
Where did you get the idea for a story about woman who translates Greek poetry?
I love the Regency era but I try to avoid the conventional London drawing room. I’m always looking for settings and stories about smart women. Women scholars now study women writers in the classical era. I asked myself what a woman would have faced in the early 19th century if she attempted that research. She would have been barred from the best universities and libraries. It was fun to put her in Cambridge.
Your hero is pretty beaten up. Where did that come from?
I have a weakness for damaged alpha heroes. In this case I needed a reason for a soldier to be returning home to a university town. Georgiana uses his injuries as a way to insinuate herself into his life and manipulate him into helping her with her work.
Are you looking for settings for your next book?
Dangerous Secrets will be out next winter, also from Soul Mate Publishing. It is set in Rome in 1820, when Keats and Shelley lived there. The hero is another veteran of Waterloo, this one down on his luck and hiding out.
Another intriguing story! Thank you so much for sharing with us today! I wish you much success as a writer!
