Medieval Monday with Nicole Locke

Picture
Welcome to week #4 in our Medieval Monday blog hop! Today I'm sharing my snippet with Nicole Locke on her blog here.

Let a bit of Christmas cheer chase those end-of-August blues with a snippet from Nicole Locke's book, Her Christmas Knight.

Remember to comment below (and on all our wonderful blogs) for a chance to win this and other ebooks from the Medieval Monday authors!

Snippet:
Laughter. High-pitched and suddenly snuffed out.
Where had it come from? It had burst out and disappeared too quickly for her to tell. Was it the other seal seekers or someone hiding in the shadows?
She pushed away from the wall and walked to the left. She might be going in circles, but she had to move. The riddle had hinted at additional seals. The others might be ahead of her.
Not daring to run any more, she quickened her steps. If the other seekers were close and she slipped and the seal fell she would never find it again. But she couldn’t be too cautious. If she was quick enough she’d have the prize—she’d be out of the dark.
Another step and another—until the floor dropped.

Book Blurb:
A knight to protect her—this Yuletide
By order of the English king, Alice of Swaffham searches London nobility for the traitor dealing information to the Scots. Little does she know that the mysterious spy she seeks is the man she once loved and thought she'd lost forever…
If Hugh of Shoebury felt unworthy of Alice before, as the Half-Thistle spy he can never claim her heart. Now he must fight to keep not only his dark secrets--and Alice—safe from a vengeful king…but also his burning longing for her at bay!

Snippet:
‘Thomas, what is happening?’ she hissed. ‘You left four years ago. Why are you here and who is this?’
‘I’ve been in France, fighting with the Northern Company.’
Lucy gaped. ‘A mercenary? You?’
‘Why are you here?’ Thomas asked. ‘Where is Father and why is the inn in darkness so early?’
Lucy dropped her head. When Thomas had lived here the inn was always busy and open late. Now was not the time to explain why it had changed so greatly. ‘I came back…to nurse Father. Thomas, Father died almost a year ago,’ she whispered. ‘I didn’t know how to contact you.’

Book Blurb:
The spy who sought refuge…
When injured spy Sir Roger Danby comes asking for shelter at her inn, Lucy Carew is wary. He may be strikingly handsome, but the disgraced single mother has learnt the hard way with men like him. Against her better judgement, she gives him refuge.
Sir Roger has never been at the mercy of a woman before, and he’s never met one as mysterious and bewitching as Lucy. He hasn't come looking for redemption, but Lucy is a woman who could reach in and touch his closely guarded heart…

Medieval Monday with Barbara Bettis

Picture
This week, Barbara Bettis and I are exchanging snippets from our hero and heroine's first encounters. You can find mine here.

Her snippet is from her book, The Lady of the Forest, a book I think has a bit of a Robin Hood flair :-)

I hope you enjoy following along! Commenting on the posts enters you in a drawing for an ecopy of each book presented in this section of Medieval Monday!

Excerpt for week #2:

“But you’ll turn him in, won’t you?” His voice hitched.
Her glance took in the prisoner’s face that seemed so familiar. She had no choice. “We must.”
Still looking troubled, Jamie darted out. Young or no, the boy understood the danger they courted. While soldiers combed the area for a stranger, none of her people were safe. But once Sir Mortimer had his hands on the man he wanted, he’d call off his mongrels.
Kate had to believe that.

Book blurb:
BLURB:
He must pursue his enemy; she must protect her people. Can their love survive the duties that drive them apart?
When her elderly husband dies, Lady Katherine fakes her own death and disappears into the forest with others escaping the brutish new lord. Determined to protect her people, she knocks the wrong man senseless. But Lord Henry isn’t an enemy, he’s the brother of her childhood friend. Although his tender confidence tempts her, she’s bound by duty.
Henry of Chauvere has found the one lady he wants for his own, never mind she’s tied him hand and foot. When he learns the king has ordered her to wed Stonehill’s ruthless new master, he insists Kate seek haven with his sister. But she won’t desert her friends. Henry vows to solve her problem, provided he catches a traitor before the threat from Kate's past catches her.

When a daring rescue compels Henry and Kate to join forces, their attraction grows into love. If only duty didn’t drive them apart.

Medieval Monday - First Encounter snippets

Picture

Welcome to Medieval Monday! We've taken a few weeks off this summer, but are back with the popular 'Snippet' segment of our blog hop.

Today, Sherry Ewing and I are sharing snippets from our featured books, showcasing the hero and heroine's first encounter.
You can find my post on Sherry's blog here.Be sure to follow along each week as we trade snippets and unveil that ever-important first meeting.

From Sherry's novel, For All of Ever, The Knights of Berwyk; A Quest Through Time Novel (Book 1):

Riorden raised his hand and halted his group’s progress along the beach. They had pushed their steeds hard this morn as they galloped along the strand, but that is not what had caused him to stop their return to Bamburgh. There, against the backdrop of the castle, was the woman who had appeared to him yester eve. The very same woman from his dream, and the one he had seen in both the passageway and the Great Hall. Her clothing was unchanged, but he could not, for the life of him, explain her odd garments.

Aiden came abreast of Riorden’s horse with a question upon his visage. “Is something amiss?”

Blurb:
Sometimes to find your future, you must look to the past…

Katherine Wakefield has dreamed and written of her knight in shining armor all her life. Never finding a man to measure up to the one of her imagination, she and her three closest friends take a dream vacation to England. Yet, strange things begin happening while visiting Bamburgh Castle, but how could they have known they’d find themselves thrown back more than eight hundred years into the past?

Riorden de Deveraux travels to Bamburgh answering the summons of King Henry II knowing his past life is about to catch up with him. But nothing prepares him for the beautiful vision of a strangely clad ghost who first appears in his chamber, let alone the fact he begins having a conversation with her.

Centuries are keeping them apart until Time gives them a chance at finding love. But there are obstacles threatening the fragile bit of hope that Riorden and Katherine can remain together. Will the past of one consume what their future may hold, or will Time take the decision from them and hurtle Katherine forward to where she truly belongs?
