Henry and Kate's attraction is growing, but their duties threaten to keep them apart. What will he risk for Kate's kiss?
I'm welcoming award-winning author Barbara Bettis to this week's Medieval Monday round. She's offering a snippet from her book, A Winter Knight, and you're going to love it!
You can find my snippet from The Prince's Highland Bride on her blog here:
He’s running from his past; she’s running from her future. But on a snowy
winter night, they find each other and the surprising gift of love.
Sir Nicholas has given up on marriage. These days he’s content to captain his friend’s troops and avoid entanglements—until one winter night when he rescues a half-frozen woman from a snowstorm. Her irrepressible spirit and kindness to others reminds him that all ladies aren’t like his former intended, who wed his brother while Nick was on crusade. But he can’t open his heart to Lady Clare. She’s bound to another, and Nick won’t forfeit his honor. Even if she were free, he has nothing to offer but love, and this lady deserves everything.
Lady Clare’s dying grandfather has arranged her betrothal, but the arrival of the man she’s to wed sends her fleeing into a snowstorm. Injured when her horse stumbles, she’s rescued by a mysterious knight. She recovers at his run-down manor, safe at last—until her betrothed tracks her down two days before Christmas. Trapped at home with the wedding imminent, she longs for the winter knight she’s come to love.
Only a miracle can bring Clare and Nick together. But at Christmas, anything is possible
Today on Medieval Monday, Barbara Bettis is sharing an excerpt from her book, For This Knight Only. Enjoy!

Her lips tightened into a line, and Roark mentally cursed his rough words. Even when he tried to be reasonable, still he sounded like a warrior, not a courtier. Well, she needed plain speaking, if only she’d recognize the rightness of what he said. Roark’s words had Alyss rebelling at any attempted coercion as usual, but he was likely right. Her displays of independence, her boasts of driving away the Windom army and its lord had been that, boasts. If Chauvere just had more fighters, she could manage. None was coming.
She may be about to bend her stubbornness at bit. See next week on Lane McFarland’s blog:

Barbara brings an excerpt from her book For This Knight Only of her Knights of Destiny series.
In today's excerpt, Sir Roark is embroiled in more than his lady's beguiling eyes. What evidence has been left behind? And whose life is on the line?
Barbara Bettis joins me this week with an excerpt from her book, The Lady of the Forest. Barbara loves creating stories of other times and places, of heroines 'to die for', and heroes to live for. And of course, happy endings.

The Lady of the Forest
He must pursue his enemy; she must protect her people. Can their love survive the duties that drive them apart?
When her elderly husband dies, Lady Katherine fakes her own death and disappears into the forest with others escaping the brutish new lord. Determined to protect her people, she knocks the wrong man senseless. But Lord Henry isn’t an enemy, he’s the brother of her childhood friend.
Although his tender confidence tempts her, she’s bound by duty.
Henry of Chauvere has found the one lady he wants for his own, never mind she’s tied him hand and foot. When he learns the king has ordered her to wed Stonehill’s ruthless new master, he insists Kate seek haven with his sister. But she won’t desert her friends. Henry vows to solve her problem, provided he catches a traitor before the threat from Kate's past catches her.
When a daring rescue compels Henry and Kate to join forces, their attraction grows into love. If only duty didn’t drive them apart.
“Quickly.” Kate motioned to the pallet. “Tie him.”
The two dragged off the heavy metal link armor and managed to bind his hands before he
shook his head and blinked his eyes.
“Easy there,” Oscar warned, “don’t want to have to hit ye again.”
The knight attempted to kick out. Oscar caught him under the chin with a smart blow,
then grumbled. “Told ye, didn’t I?”
He grabbed the prisoner beneath the arms while Oscar looped a rope around the ankles.
Before Kate could gather her thoughts, the two deposited him on the pallet where he lay
motionless, eyes closed.
