Wonderful Weather and the Great Chicken Caper

Picture
You know what happens after the weather warms up? My neighbors start mowing the lawn (I kid you not- it is mid-January, and they cranked the lawn mowers up this weekend). I washed the car, and--I bathed the dogs.

Freki agreed to sit for the split second needed to take this shot, complete with shampoo bubbles on her head, but truly was not amused. She had been playing in 3 inches of water in her swimming pool all weekend, but a bath was almost more than she was prepared to endure.

Ben and Dixie got baths, too, but they are merely resigned to the process. Freki might stand in the tub without restraint, but she makes it clear with her expression and body language that she is doing this against her better judgment.

She has gotten to be such a big girl that I have to remember she is only 6 months old. She follows me around as usual, but now will leap onto the bed to watch the goings on or help fold laundry. (Yes, I laughed as I typed that). She scarcely fits on the couch with Ben and me, but she does her best!

Freki has been big enough to put her feet on the counter for quite some time, which is against the rules, and it got her into mischief this weekend. Dad seasoned some chicken breasts for dinner and put them on a platter for a few minutes before grilling them -- and left it on the kitchen counter.

No photo evidence, but there is only one dog who could have eaten two of the three breasts and knocked the rest into the sink. No way she could pin this on her short-legged buddy. We heard peculiar slurping sounds coming from the kitchen, then a rumbling crash. Yep, the platter was in the sink, along with one elusive chicken breast. Other than a bit of tummy trouble the next day- thank goodness for beautiful weather- she hasn't missed a beat.

Life is never dull with a GSD in the house!
